Your Moon Sign & Emotional Realm of Operation
Everybody knows what their Sun Sign is but the Moon Sign is almost always missed. The sign and placement of your Moon can be more important than the Sun because it describes who we are behind closed doors. If you’re ever trying to find out more about a person, look at their Moon sign. It’s a tell tale sign for who they really are and what they need to feel satisfied.
The Moon Sign reveals our emotional side, how our emotions operate and even the characteristics of our mother! It also shows what we need to feel secure as well as the best ways to find emotional contentment.
If you are unsure of your Moon Sign, use our Free Astrology Calculator to find out.
Keep an eye out for any planets that seem to be close to your Moon. The characteristics of that planet will likely mesh with your Moon sign. I have included the planet that works with each sign for reference. Reading for both will help you get a more detailed explanation into your Moon’s operation —if you have planets close to it.
For example, I have a Moon in Sagittarius that touches Neptune. I would first read about my Moon in Sagittarius but also read about the Moon in Pisces. This is because Neptune is the planet that works with Pisces.
This is not the case for everyone and would ONLY apply if a planet was close to your Moon when you were born. A max of a 10 degree differential (or orb) is the most to use.
Here is a description of the twelve Moon Signs along with the Planet that works with each Sign.
Moon in Aries (Mars)
A Moon in Aries denotes a person that is an action-seeker. They are likely fiercely independent, courageous and not afraid to do something in a moment of crisis. Their will can sometimes come on a bit strong because of their intense desire to act and react to situations. This is not a person that will sit back and do nothing when they are emotionally torn. The Aries energy propels them into taking action. In love matters, an Aries Moon tends to put forth more initiative during the “chase” and can lose their affectionate nature once the thrill of a relationship has dulled. Keeping things exciting in a relationship will always thrill an Aries Moon. They are all about the chase.
Moon in Taurus (Venus)
A Moon in Taurus denotes a loyal person who is able to keep emotionally stable and grounded despite the worst circumstances. Feeling secure is huge on their list. They are driven to do whatever they need to achieve security. Comfortable surroundings and things of beauty are also important to them in feeling emotionally secure. Regarding love circumstances, once a Moon in Taurus lets you into their heart you’ll remain their for good because they love forever. Divorce is highly uncommon with a Moon in this Sign – unless infidelity is involved because that breaks their demand for loyalty.
Moon in Gemini (Mercury)
A Moon in Gemini denotes a true communicator and a person who wants to talk about their deepest feelings. When this Moon type is stressed – they need to talk it out since their emotions operate in a way where being able to communicate their feelings helps them to feel emotionally satisfied. They also need to be on the go because they can be very restless. However sometimes they flutter from this to that and never quite find the “thing” it is they need to calm down. This is because they are constantly changing their minds. However, just being in motion or traveling from here can calm their anxieties.
Moon in Cancer (Moon)
A Moon in Cancer denotes an extremely emotionally sensitive and intuitive person. Their intuition is unprecedented and should always be listened to. They are also very connected to their families – particularly their mothers. A Moon in Cancer will most often wear their heart on their sleeve. They can be easily hurt and revert into their shell if they feel like someone is not listening or giving them proper attention. Giving or helping out is high on their list but they expect the favor to be reciprocated. A very interesting characteristic is their memories. Every detail is always remembered and if you cross them in any way – they will always remember and likely hold a grudge. When they are stressed they will retreat away from the world and not want to talk to anyone.
Moon in Leo (Sun)
A Moon in Leo wants to be king of its castle and have ultimate control. Leo, after all, is the King of the Zodiac. With a person’s emotional realm operating in this territory it creates a desire to be the boss or at the top of the chain. They want to shine and will always take great pride in everything they do – as well as tell you why their way is superior (but in all actuality it probably is!). Their honorable nature, however, allows them to achieve success without wrongdoing because they are highly against cheating or going behind anyone’s back. They are generous to a fault and will always be very quick to help. Just make sure you recognize their help and appreciate it – because they require to be recognized for their achievements
Moon in Virgo (Mercury)
A Moon in Virgo operates on an intellectual level when it comes to the emotional realm. Knowledge is key and when they are stressed they might seek out information rather than a hug. They need captivating conversation that can stimulate their intellect to be emotionally moved. Change and travel are welcomed since this sign has close connections to the planet Mercury (the on the go planet). Ultra-hygienic is another trait of this Moon sign and they wouldn’t feel at ease unless they were in a germ-free environment. Sharing their straw with a loved one would be a huge no-no. They are also reserved and most often shy away from the spotlight. A Virgo Moon would much rather prefer to put themselves to good use in other ways.
Moon in Libra (Libra)
A Moon in Libra loves to do unto others and take it to the max. They have a gentle nature and like to please others. A difficulty they always try to work through is that they can be overly affected by other people. This is a sign that will always work best, from an emotional stand point, being closely connected to another. It yearns for a partnership and doesn’t do well alone. A downfall to this operation of emotion is that it has a hard time saying no. It likes to please way too much. Their ultimate emotional goal is to feel peace and balance with a partner in crime by their side.
Moon in Scorpio (Pluto)
A Moon in Scorpio brings the emotions to a mysterious and dark place because Scorpio is all about the underworld. It’s the most difficult place for the Moon to live. Many people with their Moon in Scorpio feel their emotions on such an intense level that it causes them to become emotionally conflicted. They will only trust a rare few with their deepest thoughts – but once trusted they tend to hold on tight and not want to let go. Their instincts are usually always correct and they have an ability to see things as they truly are – no matter how dark. They also have a great ability to uncover deep truths of the psychological kind and make great psychologists, investigators and detectives.
Moon in Sagittarius (Jupiter)
A Moon in Sagittarius thinks BIG. They will always reach for the stars no matter how high and have a twinkle in their eye as they describe what they are going after. This can be a great thing, but it also can set them up for failure because they can sometimes be a little too unrealistic. Settling down tends to be a tad is difficult and when stressed this Moon sign has a tendency to run away. They would be better served if they tried to adapt to their situation rather than run from it —but they always end up looking for something better.
Moon in Capricorn (Saturn)
A Moon in Capricorn is an ultra polished place for the emotional realm to operate in . If your emotions live in this sign, you will never let anyone see you sweat and will always find a way to look good in the public eye. It’s so important for this sign to have the perfect façade and they will go to great lengths to never let people see their weaknesses. They have an uncanny ability to control their emotions and would never shed a tear in the public eye. Underneath it all, they yearn for success and have great staying power. Never give up is their motto and they feel emotionally satisfied when they are working at attaining a goal. This is a sign that is ultra-goal oriented. It’s got a plan and it’s going to go after it now matter how hard the climb. Achievement is something they are always after and feel most satisfied whey they achieve it.
Moon in Aquarius (Uranus)
A Moon in Aquarius is always looking to make the world a better place – from a humanitarian standpoint. It’s a Moon Sign that is detached from one-on-one interactions but will jump at a cause where it can lead the masses. Its greater purpose is to help people and sometimes that can take on a bit of a controlling attitude. They might be the first to jump in and share their opinion on what a person can do to change their situation. They have a powerful ability to help the greater good and can truly move mountains in humanitarian efforts of all kinds. Changing an oppressive situation or helping a cause of any kind is something that would emotionally satisfy them.
Moon in Pisces (Neptune)
A Moon in Pisces is a highly imaginative and mystical place for the emotional realm to live in. It’s a spiritual place and can’t be bothered with anything mundane. These types are deep. They are great philosophers and have the greatest ability of all the Moon Signs to truly get in touch with themselves at a deep level. Their emotions live in the ocean and the waves could sometimes sweep them away if they aren’t careful. This is a sign that can be highly impressionable and literally absorb other people’s emotions or energy without even realizing it. Feelings can come up, similar to waves crashing against the sandy shore, very easily. They also have a great ability to feel the true nature of a situation easily. This attribute can be a downfall if not wielded properly. When you soak up other’s energy it can literally end up draining you emotionally so it’s important that they surround themselves with the right people. It’s also important to have a creative or physical outlet where they can release their own as well as others emotional build-up that has been soaked in.
