In Astrology degree markers are predictive and the 29th degree is likely the most important of them all.
The 29th degree is referred to as a critical degree point and for good reason. I, personally, think of it as my Magic 29 because the point is so special it’s kind of magical. Whenever I see it when looking at a chart, a big light goes off in my mind. There is always a story emerging or turning point coming when that Magic 29 pops up.
When we were born, each of the planets lived in a particular sign and degree. Each degree of the zodiac is important in its own right. However, there are certain numbers that are more significant than others and I’ll showcase why. In order to understand how it works, let me break it down in an easy to understand format.
If you want to work along with me grab your personal astrology chart or generate one below. Make sure to have your birthday, exact birth time and location of birth so you can see precisely which degree each planet was living in at the time of your birth.
I’m not a Math person but some numbers are involved here…but don’t stress because it really is easy. The way it works is that there are 30 degrees in each sign. This gives us planetary placements ranging from 0 all the way up to 29 and change. Technically speaking the last degree point of each sign is really 29 degrees and 59 seconds. We never really get to the 30th degree because once we get there we really enter the next sign (which begins at 0 degrees).
From an Astrological perspective, a Natal or Personal Astrology chart, with a Magic 29 (or any placement in the 29th degree) indicates a person that is involved in major transitions all throughout their lifetime.
It’s a special marker of soul evolution and not necessarily an easy one to carry. A person with this chart is likely bringing over lots of things from past lifetimes – karmic baggage so to speak. The current lifetime is a stepping stone into a bigger part of their soul’s journey evolution. It’s pretty intense and special from a broad point of view.
It doesn’t stop there, however, because not everyone has a planet in the 29th degree in their Natal Chart. Degree placements are found in many places. We will find these special numbers or degree points embedded all throughout our charts. If we discover a planet or important angle (Ascendant (1st house cusp), IC (4th house cusp), Descendant (7th house cusp) or Midheaven (10th house cusp) living in the powerful 29th degree it’s always a special marker.

The honest truth, however, is that despite our natal degree placements each of us will experience the power of 29 many times throughout our lives. We don’t need that Magic 29 living in our natal chart in order to experience change and turning points. Everyone goes through those things all throughout their lifetimes. Astrology can help us with the timing factor of discovering when those things will happen.
Some of my favorite places to discover the power of 29 are in Progressions, Solar Returns and the Transits (or regular movements of the planets).
Progressions, involve “fast forwarding” our natal picture to the moment we’re currently in are extremely powerful in their own right. Progressions showcase phases we’re going through which are incredibly important in the big picture. When we discover the number 29 living in our progressions it’s a sign that a phase is ending in order for a new one to begin.
I love using progressions for predictive purposes as well as determining where a person is in their current outlook on life. Progressions are essential in understanding our personal current climate and influences. Whenever I look at anyone’s chart in order to gain some insight into their future, I dive into the progressions pretty quickly. When it comes to favorites, the Progressed Moon is my favorite progressed planet to look at. I quickly scan the other planets and their placements and when I find that powerful 29 I get excited because something is always coming. The 29th degree always reveals a turning point is in motion. Keep in mind that turning points are not always event driven — they can be emotional as well as psychological.
Our Solar Returns happen once a year and it’s what most of us refer to as our birthday. From an astrological stand point, our Solar Return is the moment the transiting (or moving) Sun returns to the very spot he was in when we were born. This return casts a very special moment in time and creates an important picture of the year ahead. If we were to discover a 29 somewhere in our Solar Return picture, we could easily surmise a turning point year was ahead.
Finally, the transits themselves showcase turning points. The planets are always moving and each time one of them goes into a sign’s last degree (#29) turning points come into the forefront.
Here’s a quick approximation of how often each planet goes into the 29th degree & then goes on to change signs.
Moon: Every 2.5 days or so
Sun, Mercury & Venus : Once a month
Mars: Every 6-7 weeks
Jupiter: Once a year
Saturn: 2.5-3 years
Uranus: 7 years
Neptune: 14 years
Pluto: 20 years
Given all the places we can find that Magic 29, it’s safe to say that each of us will experience it many times throughout our lives. Some events will be more impactful than others.
Each time it pops up know that some kind of turning point is on the horizon. Depending on how we look at it, turning points can signify many things. On a very simple plane, it just changes the overall climate of energy that effects everyone. On a deeper level, it can represent a new road opening up or an old one closing. A new relationship could be beginning or an old one ceasing to exist. The transition of a planet can also change our entire awareness and perception. It can change who we are and what we believe and care about.
If we’ve ever made some radical moves in our lives I know that Magic 29 was likely involved. It’s a big, intense, scary and exciting moment all rolled into one.
Whether we realize it or not, we are always changing. The timing is different for each of us when it comes to finding it in our own lives. I have found that when we discover it’s coming it creates a new awareness of where we go next. Despite being a little nervous about change, we all want to move on and up and experience new things.
My Magic 29 is the key into finding out when it’s about to happen 😉
